Three delightful contrasted works feature in this first collaboration between Auckland Choral and Manukau City Symphony Orchestra. Normally at home in Auckland's Town Hall and Cathedral, Auckland Choral takes its next concert to the fabulous new Genesis Energy Theatre which is fast becoming one of Auckland's most popular concert destinations, with its easy access and ample parking close to the Southern Motorway.
LOVE is in the form of Elgar's From the Bavarian Highlands - beautiful and sentimental music to poetry written by his wife Alice while they were on their honeymoon in Bavaria.
LOSS takes us to Andrew Lloyd Webbers' classic Requiem. This work whose Pie Jesu has won the hearts of listeners worldwide is full of yearning and sorrow.
LAUGHTER is from NZ composer David Hamilton whose settings for choir and orchestra of American poet Jack Prelutsky's poems are full of verve wit. The Dragons are Singing tonight originally composed in 1996 for choir and brass band has been rescored for choir and orchestra and is sure to be a great favourite. Prelutsky's poetry has been widely anthologised and this set includes such quirky movements as the Mechanical Dragon, Boom! The Thunder Dragon and concludes with the nostalgic Once They All Believed In Dragons.
